The star has handed over the complete sum of his £25k honor winnings to the MVT, which functions to preserve the United Kingdom's independent concert spaces.

Fender was awarded the award on October 16 as his new release the album was named the best record of the past year.

Fender has chosen to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the crucial part local spots fulfilled in his early career.

"I personally wouldn't be doing this success if it wasn't for all the performances I played around the area, and beyond, when I was just getting going," said the artist. "These venues are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these venues have ceased operations – about one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by applying a small levy to their ticket costs, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating more than £100,000 on his live tour to assist numerous small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation supported spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to challenges caused by flooding, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and sound issues.

Other venues were granted monetary aid in upgrading amenities and gear that positively impacted performers and audiences.

"The concept that funds from performances in major spaces helps the independent spots, where it all starts for performers like me, is just logical," the star has commented.

The musician is far from the only musician to donate his award winnings to good deeds.

When Pulp received the award in the year 1996 for their release their work, frontman the singer announced that the group would give their winnings to the charity War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer the artist shared her bounty among several organizations, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I donated a thousand pounds to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked new equipment," she explained to a publication.

Two years ago, the band contributed their prize money to the local youth club that developed their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Also winners that year M People gave their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was found to have the disease.

"Winning was quite enough," remarked singer Small. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't require the extra, because we had the honor. So our victory affected somebody else's life."

In the past week, the MVT announced it had saved two grassroots venues in south-east England, by placing them under local control.

The Joiners in that area and The Croft in Bristol were bought under the community ownership initiative, which is funded by a national body and enthusiasts who purchase "ownership units" in the buildings.
